Catherine Winfree | Animal Communicator & Flower Essence Practitioner

Every blend starts with a conversation. With your small pet.

Catherine Winfree is an animal communicator and flower essence practitioner based in North Carolina. Before selecting a single essence, she tunes into your small pet specific emotional state, not their habitat, food, or species profile, but what they're actually feeling.

What she hears shapes every blend she makes. That's why no two Calm Animal Solutions orders are ever identical, and why rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, and ferret parents often notice changes they weren't expecting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Chinchillas, Ferrets and Flower Essences

Which blend is right for my rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, or ferret?

Start with your pet's biggest struggle.

Relaxed Small Pet is formulated for pets that are lonely, bored, or withdrawn, including pets that hide, chew or pull at their fur, or seem restless without a clear conflict behind it.

Social Small Pet is formulated for pets whose primary issue is conflict, whether that's bullying between cage-mates, aggression toward another pet or person, or biting during handling.

If both blends seem like a fit, choose the one that describes the problem you most want to solve first.
There's a good chance you'll see improvement in both areas.
Individual results vary.

My pet was rescued, rehomed, or came from a breeder. Which blend do I order?

Start with your rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, or ferret's behavior rather than their history. Rescue, rehomed, and previously-owned pets can present differently depending on what they're carrying.

If your pet seems withdrawn, is adjusting to a new environment, or is hiding, chewing, or pulling at their fur from stress, Relaxed Small Pet is the right place to start.

If your pet is aggressive, bites, or is struggling with tension around another pet or person, Social Small Pet is the right place to start.

If both blends seem like a fit, choose the one that describes the problem you most want to solve first.
There's a good chance you'll see improvement in both areas.
Individual results vary.

Does my rabbit or guinea pig need a companion?

Rabbits and guinea pigs are naturally social.

If yours is housed alone and seems withdrawn or lonely Relaxed Small Pet can support them through that loneliness if you don't have plans for getting them a companion.

If you're introducing a new companion, Social Small Pet can help support both pets through the bonding process.

Individual results vary.

Can Social Small Pet help hamsters live together?

Hamsters tend to be solitary by nature. If your hamster is in a companion setting and seems stressed,

Social Small Pet can support a better coexistence for your hamster and companions.

Individual results vary.

My pet chews or pulls at their own fur, or a cage-mate's. Which blend do I order?

This is called barbering, and it shows up differently depending on the pet.

Rabbits tend to pull their own fur from stress.

Guinea pigs and chinchillas chew fur, either their own or a cage-mate's.

Relaxed Small Pet is the best blend to start with, if the behavior is self-directed and isn't tied to conflict with another pet.

If your pet is chewing or pulling at a cage-mate's fur, or their self-directed behavior started after a new pet arrived or during ongoing tension,

Social Small Pet is the right place to start.

Individual results vary.

My pet bites or gets aggressive when I handle them. Which blend do I order?

If your pet is generally skittish, easily startled, or reacts defensively during routine handling with no history of conflict, Relaxed Small Pet is the right blend to start with.

Social Small Pet supports situations where the biting is tied to territorial behavior, guarding, or aggression that also shows up toward other pets or people.

If both blends seem like a fit, choose the one that describes the problem you most want to solve first.

There's a good chance you'll see improvement in both areas.

Individual results vary.

What are the signs my rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, or ferret is stressed?

Common signs include hiding more than usual, appetite loss, freezing or seeming unusually still, pacing or circling, teeth chattering or baring, and changes in grooming, whether that's fur pulling, barbering, or a stopped grooming routine altogether.

Relaxed Small Pet can support the underlying stress that shows up without conflict from another pet or person.

Social Small Pet is for when the signs show up alongside aggression, bullying, or tension with a cage-mate.

Individual results vary.

My pet seems fine with me but aggressive toward their cage-mate. Which blend do I order?

Social Small Pet supports calming the emotional pattern driving the bullying, guarding, or aggression between cage-mates.

Individual results vary.

How quickly will I see results?

Many small pet parents report noticeable changes within days.

Individual results vary.

Birds with longstanding emotional patterns may take a little longer.

If you're not seeing a shift at 3 weeks, schedule your complimentary check-in if you need support.

What are the ingredients?

Every Relaxed Small Pet and Social Small Pet blend contains three ingredients:

• vegetable glycerin

• filtered water

• custom-chosen flower essences selected specifically for your pet's emotional needs by Catherine Winfree, animal communicator and flower essence practitioner

No preservatives, no artificial ingredients, no fillers, no oils, no scent compounds.

Are flower essences the same as essential oils or aromatherapy?

No.

This distinction matters especially for small pets. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas, and ferrets all have sensitive respiratory systems, and essential oils, scented sprays, and aromatic compounds can be genuinely dangerous for them.

Flower essences do not contain plant oils, scent compounds, or aromatic molecules.

Completely odorless, oil-free, and entirely unrelated to essential oils, diffusers, or aromatherapy products of any kind.

Are flower essences backed by vets?

Flower essences are generally considered safe and are often used alongside veterinary care.

VCA Animal Hospitals describes them this way: "Flower essences are extracts from various types of flowers that are used to balance emotions. In animals, they are used to relieve emotional stress and anxiety."

VCA also confirms flower essences are used in cats, dogs, horses, fish, birds, and other animals.

While not a prescription, they can complement the training or medical support your vet recommends. Always let your vet know what you are using.

I've tried Bach Rescue Remedy. How is this different?

Bach Rescue Remedy is one of the most recognized flower essence blends in the world, and it has introduced many bird parents to what flower essences can do. It contains five essences formulated for general stress and acute upset. For many situations, it helps.

These blends go further.
Catherine works from the full Bach flower essence library and beyond, selecting essences specifically for the emotional pattern your pet is carrying, whether that's loneliness, barbering, bullying, or handling stress, rather than one general formula for everything.

If Rescue Remedy has helped but hasn't fully resolved what you're seeing,

Relaxed Small Pet or Social Small Pet is the natural next step.

Can I use Relaxed Small Pet and Social Small Pet alongside my vet's treatments?

Yes.

Flower essences do not contain oils, herbs, or active compounds that interact with medications or supplements.

Safe to use alongside any veterinary treatment.
As with any new product, check with your vet if you have specific concerns about your rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, ferret, or other small pet

How do I use Relaxed Small Pet and Social Small Pet with my pet(s)?

Every blend can be
• added to your pet's water dish
• misted into the enclosure or hutch (even lightly misting your pet)

• applied to your hands before handling
• misted onto hides, bedding, or the room the enclosure is in

Every pet is different, so it's worth trying a few methods to see what your rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, chinchilla, or ferret responds to best.
