What Are Flower Essences?

A Natural Approach to Emotional Balance for Pets and Their Parents

Where Flower Essences Come From

The modern flower essence system was developed in the 1930s by Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician who identified 38 flower essences and documented their effects on emotional states. Dr. Bach served as his own experimental subject, meticulously recording the effects of each essence over years of clinical observation.

His work built on a tradition stretching back centuries. Medieval abbess and herbalist Hildegard von Bingen documented the therapeutic use of flower dew as far back as the 12th century. In 1974, the World Health Organization acknowledged Bach flower remedies in a report on complementary medicine used globally.

Bach Rescue Remedy is the world's most recognized flower essence blend and comes directly from Dr. Bach's system. The Calm Animal Solutions blends draw from the full Bach flower essence library and beyond, selected specifically for each animal's emotional situation by Catherine Winfree through animal communication.

Are Flower Essences Safe for Pets?

Yes.

Flower essences are gentle, non-toxic, and safe for use across all species: dogs, cats, horses, fish, birds, small animals, reptiles, and poultry. They are alcohol-free, unscented, fragrance-free, and contain no oils, herbs, or artificial ingredients.

Because flower essences contain no aromatic compounds, they are safe for cats, who are highly sensitive to essential oils.

For fish, essences are applied externally to the tank or bowl rather than directly to the water.

Always let your vet know what you are using. Flower essences are not a substitute for veterinary care.

How Flower Essences Work

Flower essences do not address physical symptoms directly.

They are formulated to support the emotional patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, fear, reactivity, and stress in the first place.

Every Calm Animal Solutions blend contains three ingredients: vegetable glycerin, filtered water, and custom-chosen flower essences.

No fillers, no oils, no preservatives, no scent compounds.

Nothing that sedates, stimulates, or overrides your pet's natural state.

Many pet parents find that once those emotional patterns begin to shift, the behavioral changes feel more lasting than anything they had previously tried.

Results are subtle and cumulative.

Individual results vary.
